Story time with Jonathan
I recorded Jonathan reading a "Little Bear" book. Here's a clip.
It's not uncommon for me to hear him from the other room reading aloud to himself. He's so cool.

The words in this story are actually pretty easy for him. Today he was laying on the floor reading the Articles of Faith, word for word by himself. Ordinances, repentance, tongues, atonement, revelation, organization. . . he blows me away.

what are you going to do about school? Sounds like he is at a 4th grader level..

That's such a huge question. . . How long do you have? :) I've been trying to decide for the past year. . .

I'm so proud of him! The thing that is most amazing to me is the inflection in his voice. He reads it like I would read it. Good job Jonathan!

We loved hearing Jonathan's voice, too. Emily picked up the computer speaker and wanted to talk to Jonathan through it.
You must love seeing him enjoy reading on his own so much!
With an August birthday, he could be either the youngest or oldest in his class, right?

Yeah- either the absolute youngest or the absolute oldest. He would either turn 5 only the week before school starts, or he would be 6 the day he entered kindergarten.
He's so ready academically, but I just want to make sure he's ready emotionally. I would hate to force him before he's ready and have him be the cry baby, or not as developed as the other kids etc. But you should have heard him reading The Jungle Book tonight.
But John said he would've preferred having some time between high school and the mission, to go to college and get used to being away from home (like Adam had.)
What are everyone's experiences on which is better for a boy, and/or whether it matters at all?
Any input is welcome. . . :)

I say put him in now. I liked being the youngest in my class. (But then again I wasn't a boy) I guess you also should consider how age affects other things. Like I was the very last in my class to date, or to be able to drive... And I guess that wasn't as fun. I was seventeen when I graduated high school. But I guess it wasn't horrible or anything.

That's a good point Mary. I think Emily will be the youngest in her class, too, which means she'll be the last to date, drive, etc.
I have a good friend here who used to teach 1st grade. I'll ask her if she noticed any difference between the older/younger boys.

I love being the oldest in my class, and I cried every day for the first couple weeks, and look how I turned out.
On reading, that is pretty sweet. I was reading books to my kindergarten class, toward the beginning of the year.
