Story time with Jonathan

I recorded Jonathan reading a "Little Bear" book. Here's a clip.

It's not uncommon for me to hear him from the other room reading aloud to himself. He's so cool.

Funny story

(This actually happened in March of 06, but today I read it in my journal and laughed, so I decided to share it.)

The boys and I went grocery shopping, and one of the things on the list was a small handheld mirror. It was one of the first things we put in the cart (where Jonathan was sitting) and by the time we got to the register it had been used as a hammer by Jonathan for far too long and had broken. So we bought it anyway and went back to get another one. This one was immediately seized by Seth who followed directly in his brother's footsteps and hammered this mirror to pieces as well. I was so frustrated I even said "dang it!" which Jonathan repeated and asked what it meant. So we got a third one, which I carried safely in my back pocket till we got to the cash register and it miraculously made it home in one piece. I was glad that I had picked the $0.96 mirror instead of the $5 mirror to buy three times, but I still ended up paying $3 for a $1 mirror. Moral of the story: Bored, energetic, curious boys don't do well with mirrors while you are busy and distracted.

The latest game

The boys do this hilarious thing lately. A while ago Jonathan started pretending to be asleep every time we were getting out of the car, just to be silly and make us laugh. So now Seth has picked it up, and he remembers almost every time, on his own. I open the door to unbuckle him and he has his eyes closed and his head resting to the side. I think it's so funny. And so old of him to think of doing something funny, and pretending the same thing every time I come to get him out. He "wakes up" after 10 or so seconds and laughs. Lots of times we find both of them suddenly asleep back there when we pull in. I remember when I was young pretending to be asleep in the car many times so that my parents would carry me inside. (Did you guys do this too?) But Jonathan and Seth do it just for the sake of the masquerade. They get a big kick out of it. Most of the time they get a big tickle out of it too.

Just something cool

John showed me this gallery of photographs that I found subtly whimsical and simply clever. There are 5 or so galleries you can click through. Pretty fun stuff.

In Defense of Mold

John and I went to a play the other night and had an awesome time. On the way back we stopped and bought some cheese and crackers, and decided to try Brie. In case you aren't cheese conesseiurs (like the Sorensens) it's a French cheese that's really soft on the inside and has a thin rind of white mold on the outside. And despite the way it sounds, we liked it. The cheese is so creamy, and the flavor is much more mild than Camembert.

It's funny really that in France you could literally eat a different kind of cheese every day of the year, and here we use cheddar, mozarella. . .monterey jack. . .colby. . .and maybe 5 others if you're adventuresome. Anyway, we want to try some others next time. Have any favorites?
